I just started doing the payroll for our church. They had not been withholding SS or Medicare taxes. There was also no employee portion of those taxes. One is the pastor, and I think he can elect to not pay those taxes, but what about the other employees?
well i contacted the CPA that set it up, and he said several years ago, the church opted out. He said none of the employees have withholdings, they just are treated as self-employed when it comes to filing taxes.
